Bring the Great Books
into your room
Organisations, clubs and schools bring me in to read a Great Book with their people: one book, one month, one long conversation at a time.
Fifteen years teaching and facilitating; the club since 2013. Text Book Centre's Penmanship Award, Book Club Champion. Moderator at the Macondo Literary Festival, 2022.

What I offer
All four run the same way. I choose a Great Book for your people, write the notes and the questions and send them a week ahead, and then we talk for three hours. I do not lecture; the book does the teaching and I keep us honest with it.
Cohort facilitation for organisations and clubs
A standing group of eight to fifteen, meeting monthly or every other month. Devenir and Karen Country Club run this way.
The Parents Book Club, for schools
Eight sessions for parents on how books form children and how to build a reading culture at home.
A leadership series
Character, competence and creativity, taught from the Great Books themselves.
Speaking and moderation
I moderate author conversations and festival panels, and I speak on reading and formation. The Macondo Literary Festival, 2022, is the one people ask about.
How an engagement runs
The rhythm is the same whether the room is a boardroom, a club or a school hall. It is slow on purpose. Good conversation needs people who have actually read the book.
- One month before
We choose the book together, with your group's season in mind, and I confirm the copies everyone will read from.
- A week before
Every reader receives my notes and the questions we will sit with, so the session begins in the middle of the argument rather than at the start.
- The session
Three hours at minimum, around one table, in the Socratic way. I ask, the group answers, and we let the book answer back.
