Bring the Great Books
into your room
Organisations, clubs and schools bring me in to read Great Books with their people. Each book gets a month of reading and one long discussion.
I have taught and facilitated for fifteen years, and I have run the club since 2013. I moderated at the Macondo Literary Festival in 2022.
What I offer
All four follow the method set out below. I lead the discussion, and I do not lecture.
Cohort facilitation for organisations and clubs
A standing group of eight to fifteen, meeting monthly or every other month. Devenir and Karen Country Club run this way.
The Parents Book Club, for schools
Eight sessions for parents on how books form children and how to build a reading culture at home.
A leadership series
A series on character, competence and creativity, the classical principles of leadership, taught from the Great Books.
Speaking and moderation
I moderate author conversations and festival panels, including at the Macondo Literary Festival in 2022, and I speak on reading and formation.
How an engagement runs
Sessions run the same way for a company as for a club. Each book gets a month, because everyone reads the whole of it before we meet.
- One month before
We choose the book together, and I confirm the edition everyone will read.
- A week before
Every reader receives my notes and the questions for discussion.
- The session
The session lasts at least three hours. I ask the questions, and we test every answer against the text.

Fees
Quoted per engagement. Standing cohorts run on a monthly retainer; single sessions and keynotes are priced separately. The fee covers the reading notes and questions, the facilitated session, and the preparation behind them.
